Kennels

We are very proud of our digs here at Nakitsilik and are very willing to show off our huge kennel set up.

new pics coming soon

The perimeter is 200 ft x 200 ft - a rough square - given we are on a mountainside. The running/working kennels are 30ft x 20ft and each one has dog houses for the number of dogs in that run. Each dog also has a tie out - that we use only for when we are feeding or hooking up for a run. The rest of the time our loony bunch are free in the confines of their kennel run.

We have a large central open area that will by next spring have our kennel building, and is an open area that we can train, hook up the teams to 'hitching rails' before and after our training runs. The dogs have a wonderful view, some of the runs have trees for shade and some - in hot summer months have tarps - until the trees we have re-planted around the perimeter take root and grow.

By keeping our dogs in large 'open' runs - they exercise more, are much happier all around and have sorted out any 'pack' issues they may have - so when we hook up - we rarely have any problems. We mix & match the dogs regularly - but for the most part they are kept in the groups they run in.
