Our Policies:
Reservations & Cancellations:
OUR reputation for providing
an incredible, quality experience has been built by our due diligence in not
running on trails or in conditions that could endanger our guests or our
animals. Our safety record is UNPARALLELED in the industry. We will not
compromise safety for the sake of just doing the tour.. If we cancel a
tour for safety reasons we will be glad to
rebook at a later date. Alcoholic Beverages & Drugs: Alcohol and cold weather activities are a dangerous combination. We strictly prohibit their use on the trail. You are welcome to bring your own beer or wine for use in moderation at the lodge. Possession of illegal drugs, is of course, absolutely prohibited on Nakitsilik trips or property and will be cause to cancel your tour without refund. For the safety & enjoyment of our animals, guides and other customers - Arriving for your tour while intoxicated will result in the immediate cancellation of your tour with NO refund. Fitness & Conditioning:
You do not have to be a top athlete to enjoy a dog sled tour at Nakitsilik -
Strength is not a crucial factor - what counts is stamina and endurance - or
good cardio vascular condition. This can be achieved at any age.
How do you rate your fitness level according to the following:
POOR: Someone who has a sedentary job, rarely walks or hikes and is not
involved in any regular physical activity AND/OR is overweight by 20 pounds or
more.
FAIR: Someone who has an active job, but rarely hikes or engages in physical
activity outside the workplace; or someone with a sedentary job but engages in
occasional physical activity such as swimming, hiking, cycling.
GOOD TO GREAT: Someone who can engage in moderate activity all day, such as
hiking, cycling, ski touring etc or who engages in regular strenuous activity
such as tennis, jogging, swimming.
Please note that persons in ‘POOR’ condition may find our trips too
challenging unless they undertake a physical conditioning program at least 3
months prior to their trip. A solid 30 minutes of rigorous or conditioning
activity (swimming, brisk walking, jogging) at least 3 times per week is
recommended. You need not join a gym - even walking up the stairs at work a few
times per day or walking the last few blocks to your job are helpful.
We recommend you have decent cardio capabilities - as our location at higher
elevations (just under 4,000 ft) can be a challenge even to those in great
shape.
